MyHeritage is a mobile app that brings the main capabilities of MyHeritage.com to your smartphone. With it, you can uncover family stories, track down relatives, and explore your ethnic background right from your device. It also includes the Deep Nostalgia feature, which animates old photos. Keep in mind that the app experience is not as smooth or intuitive as the website.

Use the app’s built-in search to find people, places, and items connected to your family tree. You can also discover documents, photos, and stories you may not have known existed. Find Ancestors Using Historical Records

MyHeritage was the first family history platform to offer an interactive way to locate ancestors in historical sources. Along with searching your family tree, you can search for relatives in records such as:

Lots of Customization Options

You can personalize the app’s look by changing the color scheme, font size, and other interface elements. You can even add a background image.

• Select General Settings, then Appearance

From there, you can modify options such as Home & Lock Screen Themes, Font Size, Button Colors (text), Link Colors (links), and more.

Adding photos is one of the app’s standout features. It helps you document and share your family history in a more personal way. Even if your tree already contains lots of details, it’s often missing the images that matter most—like photos of people who shaped your childhood.

To include pictures, upload them in the app (or on the website) and select them in your profile so other people can view them.

DNA Test Kit

DNA is a separate genetic code and only overlaps when there’s a blood relationship. That’s why official DNA testing typically requires a visit to a hospital or a reputable clinic.

While MyHeritage’s interface helps you run simple checks, this feature is not necessarily fully accurate. However, the AI system may be surprising by identifying related matches across the world.

DNA results are also handled with privacy in mind. The app states that it will never share your information without your consent.

Old photo restoration is a popular need, and MyHeritage aims to handle it particularly well compared to similar apps. Since old photos often lose quality over time—no matter where they’re stored—the typical process is to take or capture a picture of the old photo and upload it to the app.

After upload, the AI system analyzes and scans the image data quickly. Then MyHeritage enhances the photo quality (the rest of the process continues after the scan).
