Papers, Please Mod Introduction
Papers, Please Mod Take control as an immigration officer in Papers, Please Mod. Verify visas and passports, stamp approvals or rejections, and manage rising risks as inspections grow harder.
Papers, Please Mod
Papers, Please Mod is a standout simulation game where you step into the role of an immigration officer. Your job is to review travelers’ paperwork and decide whether they’re allowed to enter. At first, the checks are straightforward—think basic visa verification—but they quickly grow more complicated as the game progresses.
Each passenger hands over their passport and visa. You’ll stamp the documents with “Pass” or “Reject”, then return them. As you perform additional immigration inspections—especially in periods or locations with higher terrorist activity—you can earn more revenue.
Download the mod and jump in to experience tense document screening like never before.
Story
The events of Papers, Please unfold on a fantasy world map, where the communist state of Arstotzka has just endured years of resistance—up to 6 years—against a neighboring country known as Kolechia.
After this long conflict, Arstotzka regained part of its influence, built its own independent institution, and used the Grestin region as a border line to divide the territory. One side of Grestin belongs to Arstotzka, while the other half is under Kolechia’s control.
Along this narrow boundary, an official immigration office was established to manage people attempting to enter the newly claimed Arstotzka territory—primarily those coming from Kolechia.
Arstotzka agrees to accept many immigrants, but not every case is straightforward or harmless. Among the crowds, you may encounter ordinary tourists—or people with far darker intentions, such as criminals, corrupt figures, or hidden threats. There are also spies, terrorists working undercover, and other dangerous elements. With a new country still dealing with the aftermath of war, one wrong decision can lead to unpredictable consequences.
That’s why the player’s responsibility feels heavy almost from the very first scenes. You aren’t only checking documents at a border—you’re effectively shaping outcomes for your country.
Gameplay
The gameplay in Papers, Please feels simple compared to many other indie titles, but it stays challenging through details. The core style is point-and-click puzzle screening. Most of the time, you’ll review information carefully, compare records, and then use the screen to decide whether a given person’s documents should be accepted or denied.
Your Role
In the game, you play as an officer in the Arstotzka national immigration office. Your decisions matter because your stamps determine whether people are granted entry—and that influences what happens around you.
How Daily Screening Works

Your routine is to sit at your station, receive immigration paperwork from residents hoping to enter, and compare the personal details on the documents against the information stored in the computer database. You’ll look for anything that seems confusing, unusual, or unclear.
After reviewing the written records, you also assess background factors such as family history, occupation, goals, and work/practice history. Between paper checks and database comparisons, the game may ask verification questions to confirm whether the person answers truthfully and whether their responses match what you’ve already found.
Don’t forget to verify identity as well: compare the person’s appearance with the photo shown on the document.

Controls
You can control the game using two fingers, with no extreme pressure required. The experience is built around careful inspection and quick decision-making under pressure.
Pressure and Consequences
While the mechanics revolve around document verification, the game also applies psychological, financial, and moral pressure. That tension is part of what makes you hesitate—even when you’re unsure what the “right” choice is.
