Gameplay

Claim territory to gain momentum

Capture territory to level up and earn a speed bonus. To do it, move outside your owned area so your character leaves a tail behind them. Then, loop back into your territory to capture the enclosed hexagons.

How eliminations work

• Slice tails to remove other players from the match.
• Don’t crash into another player’s head—if you collide, both players are eliminated.
• Collisions are safe when you’re inside your own territory.

Becoming “King” and winning

To become the King, reach a specific ownership threshold: 20% of the map. When you hit it, you’ll receive a speed boost and your position will appear on the minimap for everyone.

However, be careful: your location will also be shown on their minimaps. Once you become King, a 3-minute countdown starts. During that time, you must keep your territory percentage above the 20% threshold to secure the win.

There’s also an alternative path to victory: remove your opponents. If there is a King on the map, rivals can be eliminated—and they won’t be able to respawn.

Totems

Capture the totems

While playing Hexanaut.io, you can capture five different totems. Whenever it’s safe, try to grab them—they each provide different advantages that help you control the map and become the Hexanaut.

Spreading Totem

The Spreading Totem is the only totem that directly helps you gain hexagons through lasers. After capturing it, lasers will fire out and capture tiles one by one. This is especially useful early on, when building territory can feel difficult.

Speed Totem

The Speed Totem increases your speed by 5%. While that number may look small, it adds up fast—especially if you collect two or three. Prioritize these totems when possible.

Teleporting Gate

Teleporting Gates transport you from one gate to another. They’re perfect when you need to cover a big territory quickly. Instead of crossing your entire hex area, you can teleport and save a lot of time.

They’re also great for surprise plays. Often, enemies try to attack the edge of your territory while you’re elsewhere. If you teleport close to them, you may catch them off guard and cut off their tails.

Slowing Totem

The Slowing Totem creates a zone that heavily slows down any other player who enters it—like being trapped in a web. In that area, opponents can barely move compared to you. If someone dares to step into your slow zone, use your speed advantage to take them down.

On the flip side, avoid enemy slowing totems whenever you can. If your opponent has that kind of advantage, it’s usually not worth trying to fight them head-on.

• Turn the slowing totem into a weapon: The Slowing Totem can restrict opponents’ movement and give you an edge. Lure players into the slow zone and finish them while they struggle. Just watch out for enemy slowing totems—don’t willingly challenge someone when they have that huge advantage.
