You can also use it on Android phones and devices, as well as popular streaming setups like FireStick, Fire TV, Google TV, Android Box, and Roku to enjoy YouTube content.

The main goal of SmartTube is to remove ads and sponsored sections using SponsorBlock, an open-source tool that skips the “unnecessary parts” of videos. With this approach, you can stream freely without sitting through intros, outros, sponsor segments, or subscription prompts. In other words, you get the content you came for—without the extra filler meant to boost engagement.

Key interactions

If you already use YouTube, you’ll recognize the basics. While watching a video, you can Like or Dislike to show your reaction. If you want more videos from a channel over time, you can subscribe so you receive notifications when new uploads appear.

These actions help shape what you see next, since likes and dislikes influence YouTube’s recommendation algorithms. Even on SmartTube Next, they still work as expected.

Watch news without ads

SmartTube Next’s news feed is completely free and available anytime. News is focused on entertainment topics from your country. If you see foreign terms, the app can translate them into your language for easier reading.

Your viewing history is also saved, so you can return to previously watched videos. You can even build favorite playlists for relaxing or staying productive.

Listen to music and play games

SmartTube Next isn’t only for video—music content is also updated regularly. You can listen to tracks from many well-known artists, with access to music organized through albums and sound quality options.

When you don’t want to watch, music is a great way to stay calm and focused. The app also includes a selection of small TV-friendly games designed to fit different ages, offering fun moments you can share with family and friends.

Adblocking

SmartTubeNext is designed to show no ads—including ad banners, pre-roll ads, or mid-video ad breaks. It doesn’t just try to hide them; it’s set up so ads can’t be displayed at all, meaning YouTube can’t insert them.

As a result, you won’t be able to allow ads or whitelist channels. Some channels include sponsored messages inside the video itself—those can also be skipped via SponsorBlock (see below).

Picture-in-Picture (PiP)

SmartTubeNext supports Picture-in-Picture playback. To use it, enable:

Settings > General > Background playback > Picture in picture

While a video is playing, PiP can start when you press Home. It can also begin when you press Back, if that option is enabled in:

Settings > General > Background playback

Adjust playback speed

You can change how fast a video plays by tapping the speed indicator (the gauge icon) in the top row of the player. Your chosen speed is remembered across videos.

Note: some speeds may cause frame drops. This is a known behavior.

Voice search

To use global voice search, you must install an additional helper app along with SmartTubeNext. This bridge app intercepts the system’s attempt to open the original YouTube app, and instead opens SmartTubeNext.

• You’ll need to uninstall the original YouTube app for this to work.
• The bridge app won’t appear in your launcher, and you can’t open it manually. It’s only used internally for voice search.
• On some devices, you may need to explicitly say “Youtube” when searching (for example: say “youtube cute cats” instead of just “cute cats”).

Tips for users

• Enable adblocking: Open the settings and make sure the adblocking option is turned on for a smoother, uninterrupted viewing experience.
• Customize SponsorBlock categories: In settings, choose which SponsorBlock categories you want to skip—such as sponsored sections, intros, outros, and more—so you land on the content you actually want.



• Link devices for casting: To cast videos from your phone or other device to your TV, go to the settings and link your smartphone and TV. Enjoy
