PS4 Second Screen Introduction
PS4 Second Screen PS4 Second Screen lets you control and enhance your PS4 using your Android phone as a second display. Sign in with PSN, pair on the same Wi‑Fi, use text input, and view extra game info where supported.
PS4 Second Screen
PS4 Second Screen lets you link your PS4 to your mobile device so you can jump into gaming right after signing in to your account. The app turns your phone or tablet into a second screen, giving you a new view of what’s happening and adding extra convenience to your sessions.
Important: not every game supports Second Screen. Before relying on it during gameplay, check whether your specific title is compatible.
Beyond games, you can also type text on your mobile device and show it on other screens, which makes tasks like messaging and searching feel quicker and easier.
Key Features
PS4 Second Screen is more than a simple remote control. It helps you:
- Browse the PS4 home screen and move through menus.
- Enter text using your phone’s keyboard (especially handy for messaging friends or searching the PlayStation Store).
- For supported games, show extra gameplay details such as maps or inventory, creating a more engaging multi-screen experience.

Another highlight is using your mobile device like a simplified controller for quick actions. You can handle basic navigation and playback controls when you don’t have the main controller nearby.
If you’re broadcasting gameplay, the app also makes community interaction easier by letting you view comments and read party chat in text form.

Setup Requirements
- You must sign in using your PlayStation Network (PSN) account.
- Your PS4 and your mobile device must be on the same Wi‑Fi network.
- Pairing involves a basic device-to-console pairing step, which is usually straightforward.
- Some users may find the manual configuration and on-screen code entry a small hurdle at first.
Usability
The app’s interface is designed to feel uncluttered and simple. Touch controls like swiping and tapping respond quickly with minimal delay for real-time use. Typing text through the app is generally faster than using the PS4 controller’s on-screen keyboard.

User Feedback
-
Positive/experiential: One user mentioned that on an iPhone 7, the app wouldn’t cooperate at first—it got stuck on a loading screen, timed out, and didn’t work. After installing the PS app and Second Screen app at the same time, they logged in through the PS app first and then opened the Second Screen function inside it. After that, it ran smoothly on an iPhone SE and felt more like a plug-in than a standalone app.
-
App separation: Another review notes that it’s a separate app rather than an additional paid purchase. The reviewer suggests the separation likely streamlines the Second Screen feature instead of relying on a larger “3 in 1” style app. They also preferred this approach because it avoids waiting for the main app to load, and they expressed a similar preference for the Messages app being separate as well.
