Joy-Con Droid Introduction

Joy-Con Droid Joy-Con Droid lets you use Android as a Nintendo Switch controller—Left Joy-Con, Right Joy-Con, or Pro Controller. Enjoy button remapping, motion sensors, and customizable controller colors. Works on Android 9.0+.

Joy-Con Droid

Joy-Con Droid is an app that turns your Android phone into a controller for the Nintendo Switch. You can set it up as either the Left Joy-Con, Right Joy-Con, or even as a Pro Controller.

You can also connect a USB controller to your device and use it to control the console.

Important: Joy-Con Droid requires at least Android 9.0 and support for the Bluetooth HID Profile. If your device doesn’t match these requirements, you may see different error messages.

When you open the app for the first time, you’ll be guided through a full step-by-step tutorial explaining how to set up your Android as a Joy-Con. After that, you can configure the app in whichever way you prefer—such as mapping buttons, enabling or disabling motion sensors, and changing the interface colors.

About

Joy-Con Droid is a free Nintendo Switch Joy-Con emulator that lets your Android act as a Left Joy-Con, Right Joy-Con, or Pro Controller.

It includes several interface styles, including:

  • Customizable Left JoyCon
  • Customizable Right JoyCon
  • ProController
  • Joy-Con Droid

  • NES Style Right JoyCon
  • TAS UI
  • Turbo Controller
  • Joy-Con Droid

  • PokéMacros

You can also remap controller buttons and use motion-related controls like the Gyroscope and Accelerometer. On top of that, you can adjust the controller color scheme. There’s also an in-app guide to help you through setup and daily use.

Before you continue: the app only works on Android 9.0+. With newer Switch firmware, a Bluetooth Device Class check determines whether your device is recognized as a gamepad. To pass this check, your Android typically needs to be rooted with Magisk, so you can use the Bluetooth++ module and change your device class to 002508.

Alternative method: you can change your Bluetooth MAC Address to match a controller that has already been paired to your Switch—but this still requires root access. Magisk is recommended because it’s easier and can install the needed files automatically after you add a module.

Key Features

Pairing With Switch

The app lets you pair your Android device with your Nintendo Switch as a controller, including Joy-Con support. Make sure you meet the required setup conditions before pairing.

Accelerometer

The Accelerometer supports motion-based controls by detecting your approximate orientation and movement. It also provides an image-based sensor. You can turn this on from the app’s Settings.

Gyroscope

The Gyroscope helps you aim and move with more freedom. It’s responsible for aiming in the direction that your camera movement suggests based on controller motion. You can enable it from the app’s App Settings.

Custom Gamepad Interfaces

You can use custom controller UIs. Choose from:

  • Customizable Left JoyCon
  • Joy-Con Droid

  • Customizable Right JoyCon
  • ProController
  • Joy-Con Droid

  • NES Style Right JoyCon
  • Joy-Con Droid

  • TAS UI
  • Turbo Controller
  • PokéMacros

Remap Buttons

Set up your controls the way you like by remapping buttons. Open the More menu on the left side of the screen, then select Map Buttons.

Controller Customizations

You can fine-tune controller behavior and appearance, including:

  • Packet Rate
  • Controller body colors
  • Button colors
  • Device settings

Prerequisites (To Use Smoothly)

Before using Joy-Con Droid, confirm your phone meets its requirements. A major requirement is Bluetooth HID Profile, and you also need Android Pie (9) or higher.

You can check whether you have the right profile using the Bluetooth HID Profile Tester app.

Alpha status notice: Since this app is still in alpha development, you may occasionally run into bugs. Some devices may also fail to work properly. If you encounter issues, note the device model that has trouble and report it to the developer via Discord or email.

Amiibo Support

JoyCon Droid also includes Amiibo functionality (interactive figures and cards supported by compatible Switch games such as Animal Crossing).

However, this feature has limitations: reading files can take a few seconds just to start, the reading process can feel very slow, and you may experience input delays. The analog stick may also be less responsive than expected.
