About: Name that tune

Whenever a song catches your ear, simply hold your PC microphone near the speaker and tap the “Tag Now” icon. After a short moment, Shazam will show the song information right inside the app—such as the track title, artist, and the album it comes from.

Where you can play your results

After identifying a track, Shazam gives you options to open it in services like Spotify, Rdio, and the Google Play Store, so you can listen and purchase the track if you want. You can also review everything you’ve searched for using the “My Tags” section.

Spotify integration

Shazam now supports Spotify integration. When you connect your Spotify account, you’ll automatically receive a playlist called “My Shazam tracks”—a convenient timeline of the songs you’ve tagged through Shazam.

For each track, you can also access more in-depth information, including lyrics and related videos.

Easy listening

How does Shazam recognize music so quickly? It “listens” through your PC microphone, then uses your mobile internet connection to compare the captured audio with matches stored in a large online music database. If a match is found, Shazam displays the details almost immediately—and you can even email the result to a friend if you choose.

While Shazam can’t identify every song ever released, it successfully recognized most of the tracks we tested. The interface is straightforward, and it typically takes only a few seconds to identify a song.

Note: Shazam isn’t a full streaming app. It mainly provides the lyric snippet for your discovered track. If you want to listen to the entire song, you’ll need to open the track in your preferred music app (for example, Spotify, Gaana, or YouTube Music).
