Punishing: Gray Raven Introduction
Punishing: Gray Raven Seize the moment in Punishing: Gray Raven—skill-based real-time combat, smart team building, and a cyberpunk campaign against the Punishing Virus. Explore abandoned cities, deserts, virtual worlds, and more.
Punishing: Gray Raven
Strike when the moment is right—take control of your positioning, then bring down the Punishing Virus. Punishing: Gray Raven is a mobile action game where you form different squads, clear a variety of stages, and fight off many kinds of enemies.
The battlegrounds are all different. As you progress, you’ll be thrown into intense conflicts across abandoned cities, deserts, virtual realms, and even the skies above Earth. Enemies in each location fight differently, so you’ll need to study their behavior and tailor your team to take them out more efficiently.
Alongside combat, the game also includes a Dormitory area where your character can rest and interact between missions.
Features
Responsive Real-Time Combat
This is a skill-focused action experience built around timing and positioning. You directly control movement and attacks, then use accurate dodges or blocks to expose enemy openings and land punishing counterattacks.
You can also switch teammates during a fight to extend combos and keep pressure on. On top of that, the game uses a match-3 skill system: connect the right icons at the right time to trigger powerful skills.
The soundtrack heightens every confrontation, helping each battle feel distinct and impactful.
- Direct control of movement and attacks
- Dodges and blocks timed to break enemy defenses
- Mid-fight teammate switching to extend combos
- Match-3 skill triggers for powerful abilities
- Impactful soundtrack for each clash

Story Chapters with Deep Backstory
The campaign delivers a dark cyberpunk narrative about humanity’s desperate fight against a punitive virus. Instead of a simple linear plot, the game uses a visual-novel-style episodic structure, placing key scenes throughout missions.
As you keep playing, you can unlock more viewpoints and learn additional details about the backstory—so you can tackle main objectives first, then revisit side quests when you’re ready to dig deeper.
Diverse Locations and Mission Types
Your journey doesn’t stay in one place. You’ll travel from abandoned cities to deserts, megastructures, and virtual worlds. Some missions push you toward the polar regions, while others take place in low-gravity areas above Earth.
These shifts change the pace of combat and how enemies behave, keeping fights fresh as you rotate squads and strategies.
Build Your Team and Customize Constructs
You can recruit a variety of 3D constructs, each with distinct skills and roles. Customize them by equipping the right gear and adjusting skills to fit different mission needs.
Because enemy types vary, swapping constructs and experimenting with team commands can help you handle new threats without relying on the same approach every time.
Dormitory System for Downtime
When you’re not in missions, you can use the dormitory to let your characters rest and interact. Place furniture, choose themes, and browse the character roster between stages.
It’s a place to unwind after intense battles and quickly handle small tasks.
Combat Highlights
- Fast combo system: each character builds a combo gauge by attacking. Three or more hits can unleash a stronger attack.
- Team balance matters: every hero has their own skills, so assembling the right mix is important for progressing through the action RPG.
- Master dodges/parries: perfect timing can trigger slow-motion effects and charge the combo gauge faster.
- Hit robots harder: with faster gauge build-up, you can deal more powerful damage and use ultimate skills sooner.

Review
Overall, it’s a highly satisfying game. The combat feels smooth and exciting, the character costumes look excellent, and the effects are impressive. The game also avoids heavy grinding—resources are relatively easy to obtain and it doesn’t demand too much time, which makes it a great fit for casual mobile play.
The story is well-structured too, with a solid narrative and well-developed characters. That said, the gameplay can feel a bit repetitive and may lack variety after you’ve played for a while. If the game added more innovations to its gameplay, it would be even better.
One suggestion from the reviewer is that Kuro should consider adding more languages. Not everyone is comfortable with English, and extra language options could bring in more players and make the game’s details easier to understand. The reviewer notes they no longer play on the international server, choosing the Taiwan server instead, but says the experience is essentially the same.
They also share personal experience: they started with Honkai Impact 3rd but stopped because the missions were too difficult for them. After seeing an advertisement for Punishing: Gray Raven, they were drawn in by the beauty of the character models—and they recommend the game highly.
