Story Overview

Riley has spent his entire life in Porthwarren. He moves through days at a familiar pace, drifting from one part-time job to the next. Like the tide, his routine comes and goes—steady, expected, and resigned.

He grew up surrounded by good friends, but time and circumstances have pulled them apart. Ranzo is away working on cargo ships abroad. Billy is studying north of the county. Sal stays busy with freelance work, and Joe has settled into a quieter role at the local museum. Their shared memories from better days still feel close, but they’re starting to slip—like boats rocking at the harbor, held in place only loosely.

Walking the same streets around town, Riley can’t help thinking of someone he once clung to—someone who existed outside the group, a person he loved. Ten years have passed, and yet those memories remain painted in fading, watery colors.

As cool spring air brings the land back to life, Porthwarren prepares for its yearly folk festival.
