Highlights

Game Modes

Free Fire includes 15+ game modes, such as Team Deathmatch, Clash Squad, Big Head, Explosive Jump, Cold Steel, Zombie Hunt, Rampage, and Pet Mania. Note: modes other than Battle Royale, Clash Squad, and Lone Wolf typically appear only during special events.

Battle Royale supports up to 52 players who drop onto an island with no weapons. Players must search buildings for gear and fight until only one side remains. If you play ranked, your performance can impact your ranking. There are 6 maps to choose from: Bermuda, Bermuda Remastered, Kalahari, Purgatory, Alpine, and NeXTerra. This mode can be played in Solo, Duo, or Squad formats.

Clash Squad is a 4v4 mode. During the preparation phase, teams buy weapons and items from an in-game shop, then face off against the opposing squad. Matches follow a best-of-7 structure, typically running for 4 to 7 rounds. A round ends when all players on one team are eliminated—either by enemies or through map/environment effects. As of 2022, the maps used in Clash Squad match the Battle Royale map pool. You can play it in Ranked or Casual mode.

Lone Wolf is a variant of Clash Squad with more complex rules. It can be played as 1v1 or as a 2v2 “duo”. For each round, both sides choose their equipment for the next two rounds. The match uses a best-of-5 format. If both teams win 4 rounds each, a final round begins where both sides can select any weapon they want. At the start of each round, all players are automatically given basic items like a vest and helmet. This mode plays on its own map called Iron Dome.

Craftland lets players build their own maps inside Free Fire using an in-game builder. Created maps can be shared and played by others. Craftland also supports script editing for deeper customization, giving creators more freedom to realize their ideas. You can place buildings, gameplay elements, and decorations until you reach the maximum space limit. There are 2 base maps available for new designs.

Character System

Free Fire features a 50+ character system. Every character comes with a distinct skill that can be either active or passive. Active abilities are triggered manually using an in-game button, while passive skills activate automatically. A character can equip 4 skills total: the character’s own skill plus 3 skills from other characters (one active and three passive can be equipped on a single character).

Many Free Fire characters also have original backstories. Some were inspired by real-world celebrities involved in collaborations, including: Chrono (Cristiano Ronaldo), Dimitri & Thiva (Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike), A-Patroa (Anitta), Alok (DJ Alok), and JBeibs (Justin Bieber).

You can unlock all characters using gold (earned through gameplay and events) or by purchasing Diamonds with real-world money.

Pet System

Pets in Free Fire support players during fights. As of 2023, there are 21 pets you can bring into battle, and each one has a special ability that makes it unique. Some pet abilities are passive and activate automatically during combat, while others offer different effects to help you in the fight.
