Children of Morta Introduction
Children of Morta Choose the Bergson family and fight through procedurally generated dungeons in Children of Morta. Swap seven heroes, power up with roguelite progression, and team up in co-op to battle corruption.
Children of Morta
Children of Morta is an action-adventure role-playing game that mixes dungeon crawling with roguelite progression and fast hack-and-slash combat. Instead of controlling just one hero, you lead the Bergson family as you explore a world map, fight through waves of enemies, and collect a steady stream of rewards.
In addition to solo play, the game includes multiplayer co-op. You can bring a friend and battle together in randomly generated dungeons, facing hostile creatures and the forces trying to corrupt the world. As you advance, you’ll also need to care for and develop your family—switching weapons, upgrading abilities, and strengthening their overall combat power to gain an edge in later runs.
Key Features
Family Focus
- Control the entire Bergson family, not a single character.
- Each of the seven family members has distinct skills and a different fighting style.
- Switch between family members to match your preferred tactics and playstyle.

Roguelite Progression
- Runs follow a roguelite structure where the family improves over time.
- After each dungeon attempt, you can upgrade skills and equipment.
- Even if you fail a run, you can still move forward by investing in the family’s long-term development.

Dynamic Combat and Exploration

- Dungeons are procedurally generated, so every playthrough feels different.
- Explore a variety of locations, from caves to dark forests, each packed with dangerous enemies.
Story and Theme
- The narrative explores universal themes like love, sacrifice, and family bonds.
- As the story unfolds, you’ll learn more about a family that refuses to face the darkness alone.

Complete Edition Content
- Includes the Ancient Spirits and Paws and Claws DLCs.
- Adds new characters and a pet system to expand your options in combat.
Upcoming Online Co-op
- A two-player online co-op mode is planned via a post-launch update.
- Team up with a friend to tackle dungeons together and fight through the same threats.
Game Highlights
Multiple Character Perspectives
You experience the story through different viewpoints, with conversations that reveal fresh angles on the same events. Each interaction adds color and variety to how the narrative unfolds.
Emotion-Driven Themes
The game leans into deep emotional ideas you can explore at your own pace—from heartfelt relationship themes to more complex topics like sacrifice.
Family-Centered Worldbuilding
You’re not just fighting for survival—you’re fighting to protect your family. Expect intense battles as you strive to keep them safe and steady.
Balanced Family Development
Progress isn’t only about one hero. You also grow your family members’ skills and overall strength, turning your group into a more formidable “warrior family.”
Repeatable Dungeon Adventures
- Step into dark, challenging dungeons again and again.
- Face opponents that match the difficulty you’re up against.
- Keep replaying until you’re satisfied with what you’ve achieved.
Ongoing Skill Growth
Your character is constantly evolving. Keep upgrading and expanding abilities so your party can become legendary over time.
Helpful Tips
John vs. Linda
- John and Linda are the first two characters you unlock.
- John uses a sword and shield and plays like the family’s straightforward frontline warrior.
- Linda is a bow user who fights at range.
- In co-op, John and Linda pair together especially well.
- If you’re starting solo, avoid relying on Linda right away—she can be overwhelmed by monsters early on.
- With time and investment she can become stronger, but as an early recommendation, begin with John.

Buff the Family (Not Just One Hero)
It’s important to eventually play with all family members for two main reasons:
- When characters level up their skills, they can reach new tiers. Those tiers provide permanent buffs for the entire family.
- Later on, family members can become sick, which reduces their HP. They need time to rest—meaning you shouldn’t keep using everyone at all times.

Because of this, try different members as backups so the family stays ready.
Prioritize Power and Health
Gold earned in dungeons is spent at the Bergson home at two different shops:
- Family Smithy: permanently increases stats like attack power, health, speed, and more.
- Knowledge shop: unlocks improvements that support random skill perks (for example, helping you find more gold).
Upgrades carry across your family. While leveling, you can raise every stat over time, but early on it’s wise to focus mainly on power and health.
Cooldowns, Dodge, and Running
- Surviving dungeons comes down to three core habits: managing cooldowns, using dodges, and knowing when to run.
- Tip: work on your timing so you can avoid damage windows instead of tanking everything.
