Developer Notes

Hi everyone!

I’m a big fan of visual novels, and Bible Black has been one of my favorites for a long time. That said, the original version is quite old—it’s limited to 640x480 and can run into compatibility problems on modern systems. That’s why I decided to build a modern version of this classic.

What I’m Doing

• Rebuilding the script: I’m recreating the original text in the Ren’Py engine, keeping the official translation (with typos fixed) and preserving the original voice acting. Transitions and animations will be kept as faithful to the source as possible.
• Upgrading backgrounds and artwork: All BGs and CGs are being expanded to 1920x1080. Upscaling uses non-generative AI (no new details added), while some images are extended using generative AI to fill empty areas.
• Modernizing the UI: In general, I use a modern Ren’Py interface, but I’m using many UI elements from the original game to keep the same look and feel.
• Gallery and music player: The final release will include the gallery (sprites, artworks, scenes) and the music player, just like in the original game.
• Multi-platform support: The current build is available for Windows, Linux, Mac, and Android.
