Background Story
The Illuminati are often described as a secret Bavarian organization formed during the Enlightenment era on May 1, 1776. In many stories, the Illuminati are portrayed as members working quietly in the background to control world events. Sometimes, “Illuminati” is even used as a shorthand for the idea of a new world order.
During the European Reformation in the 16th century, the legend claims that several leading minds—mathematicians, physicists, astronomers, and artists—were tied to the Illuminati. Names often mentioned include astronomers Galileo Galilei, Nicolaus Copernicus, and Giordano Bruno, along with master artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
As the Illuminati’s influence supposedly grew, the Holy See reportedly viewed them as a serious threat. It was said that the Holy See could not accept the continuation of an organization focused on promoting science and opposing the church—so a crackdown was launched, using harsh measures to drive the Illuminati out of existence.
Another key figure in the lore is Adam Weishaupt, a professor of practical philosophy at the University of Ingolstadt in the Kingdom of Bavaria. He promoted Enlightenment–Perfectibilism (Perfectibilism), which is said to have been established on May 1, 1776. In the same year, the Possibilities’ Association was renamed the Bavarian Illuminati.

The Long-Standing, Profound Influence of Freemasonry

The isosceles triangle symbol is often described with a pair of wide, shining eyes, alongside the mysterious number 33, secret rituals, and enigmatic oracles. To many, these are recognizable signs associated with Freemasonry.
If you’ve read Dan Brown’s crime-thriller novel series, you’ve likely heard plenty about this “church” and its influence. As a group associated with science, research, and loyalty among highly educated followers, Freemasonry is widely known and said to have a deep impact across many areas of life.
The message—often treated as a central idea of Freemasonry—is “Enlightenment” through an intellectual path grounded in science and reason, not spiritual doctrine. The group is said to follow the principle of prosperity, aiming for social progress and a non-religious view of humanity, moving toward a higher level of human perfection.

At the same time, there’s a contradiction people point out: even though Freemasonry uses science to support its arguments, its rituals are also described as containing spiritual and religious elements—claimed to “filter” the essence of beauty from other faiths. Despite these criticisms, members who are accepted into the organization are described as highly loyal to their order.

Many famous names have been rumored to be part of the Masonic Society, including Pitagor, the mathematician often credited as one of the society’s founding figures. Other notable names frequently mentioned are George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Theodore Roosevelt, Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, and Leonardo da Vinci.
