Kocho is a visual novel creation tool built for creators. It lets you switch between Player Mode and Creation Mode so you can read comfortably and also build your own stories. You don’t need programming skills—just tap to assemble background scenes and branching plots. You can define each character’s personality and dialogue, add fitting background images and music, and produce polished visual reading content to share with the community, where other people can discover and play your work.
In Player Mode, you can pick stories you like, step into the game world, make choices, and steer the plot in different directions—great for a more immersive experience.

Kocho Actions
Change BGM
The Change BGM action plays background music during your scene (BGM = background music). Inside this action you can:
- Select a music track to play.
- Upload a track from your device storage.
- Preview the selected track.
- Set volume from 0% to 100%.
- Music will loop immediately when it finishes.

Supported formats: mp3, wav, ogg, flac, m4a, aac, ac3.
Change Characters

The Change characters action controls which characters appear in the foreground. You can:
- Select multiple characters or create a new one.
- Choose character expressions, or upload images from your storage.
- Adjust sprite scale, horizontal position, and vertical position.
- Flip the sprite along the Y-axis (horizontal flip).
- Pick preset in/out transition effects.
You can select all characters you need within a single action. Note: character layering isn’t flexible—new characters appear on top of older ones. Any aspect ratio is supported, but 16:9 is recommended.
Supported formats: png, jpg, jpeg, gif, bmp, wbmp, webp.
Add Cutscene
The Add cutscene action plays a video during the visual novel. You can:

- Select a cutscene or upload one from your storage.
- When used, the cutscene replaces everything on screen with the selected video.
Supported format: mp4 (currently the only supported type).
Add Actions Folder
The Add actions folder action lets you organize actions into folders for better organization. Inside a folder you can:
- Create new actions or insert existing ones.
- Give action folders a name (folders can also be called “action folders”).
Request Input

The Request input action enables player interaction. With it, you can:
- Add a prompt (optional) and choose a variable.
- The prompt limit is 50 characters.
- Whatever the player types becomes the chosen variable’s value.
To display the value in text, open a text box and type the variable name inside brackets (for example: [variableName]).

With Kocho, you can be either a player or a creator—building simple or more complex stories that include choices and bringing the stories you imagined to life.
As a player, you’ll also get access to community-made stories created by visual novel and anime fan creators.
