Bisq Introduction

Bisq Bisq is a safe, non-custodial Bitcoin exchange app for private P2P trading. Use multisig escrow and Tor hidden services—no registration or central approval needed.

Bisq

Trade bitcoin for fiat money (or other cryptocurrencies) privately and securely with Bisq. It uses a peer-to-peer network and an open-source desktop app, so you can start without creating an account or waiting for permission from a central authority.

Trades happen across a worldwide P2P network of people running Bisq on their own computers. Bisq never takes custody of your funds. Instead, it relies on 2-of-2 multi-signature wallets to help keep trades safe and to support successful completion.

Your information stays on your device: personal data is stored locally on disk and is never sent to a central server. By default, every Bisq node runs as a Tor hidden service. The software is open source, and the project’s direction is openly discussed on Keybase and GitHub.

All of this is designed to be straightforward—make your first trade in under 10 minutes. Bisq also provides decentralized governance for a decentralized exchange, built on top of Bitcoin.

About

Bisq

Bisq is a safe, private, and decentralized way to exchange bitcoin for national currencies and other digital assets. It connects traders directly using peer-to-peer networking and uses multi-signature escrow so swaps can proceed without a third party holding control.

Because Bisq is non-custodial, it also includes a human arbitration approach to help resolve disputes when they arise.

Features

  • No Identity Verification
  • Instant Access: No registration and no approval from a central authority.
  • Decentralized: Trading runs on a global P2P network of Bisq users on their own devices.
  • Safe by Design: Bisq never holds your funds. Security deposits and multisig trade wallets help protect trades and improve the chances of success.
  • Private: Only your trading partner(s) exchange personally identifying data. All personal data remains stored locally.
  • Open: The code is open source, and the project’s strategy is discussed publicly on Slack and GitHub.

  • Easy to Use: The complexity is hidden—your first trade can be completed in under 10 minutes.

Since Bisq is a desktop application, this setup lets you receive useful alerts like trade updates and offer notifications when you’re away from your computer.

The Bisq Hackathon has recently launched to tackle meaningful challenges. Even though the event is over, you can still explore the hackathon page to see what areas Bisq is currently investigating.

Changelog

  • Fix display problems during pairing on smaller screens.
  • Fix crashes on iPad.
  • Fix crashes when opening offer alert notifications.
  • Prevent adding duplicate notifications when launching the app from an iOS notification.
  • Bisq

  • Avoid loading/displaying the current BTC price from bitcoinaverage.com when viewing offer alert notifications. This helps protect privacy, since it would likely load via clearnet and isn’t required.
  • Show an alert prompt before loading web pages to reduce the chance of accidentally opening bisq.network over clearnet, which may be a privacy risk for some users.
