Requesting rides in the app

After you download the Lyft app and create an account:

• Tap Search destination and enter your drop-off location.
• Select your preferred ride type (you can review ride types in the Lyft ride types overview).
• Tap Select Lyft.
• Review or update your pickup spot, then tap Confirm and request.



• Once you enable GPS location in your phone settings, Lyft will automatically set your current address as the pickup location.
• To add an extra stop, tap the “+” icon next to the listed addresses at the top of the ride screen.
• If you’re stopping or leaving the car for more than 5 minutes, ask the driver to end the ride. Then request a new one when you’re ready to continue to your next destination.

Gate codes

• If your pickup location requires a gate code, you can enter it before your driver arrives.
• Add the gate code in pickup notes when requesting a ride, or tap “Share gate code” on the gray banner while you’re waiting. The banner will disappear when the driver reaches the gate.
• If you didn’t include the code in the notes or banner, tap the phone icon to contact your driver and provide the gate code.

Request a ride for someone else

• Set the rider’s destination.
• Tap “Change rider” at the top of the screen.
• Choose a rider from your contact list.



• The rider will be informed that a ride has been sent to them.

Note: The app will request access to the requestor’s contacts the first time you use this option. If the rider doesn’t have a Lyft account, they’ll receive a link by SMS to create one.

Note: Passengers under 18 can’t take a Lyft ride without an adult, even if an adult places the order for them.

How to sync contacts

Syncing addresses from your contact list makes destination search much faster. That way, when you type a name in the drop-off field, you can quickly see the saved address.

You can also select a contact to set their address as the drop-off location. Lyft will help keep everything updated by syncing added or removed addresses with your device contacts. To do this:

• Tap Search destination.
• Tap Import contacts at the bottom of the list (this prompt appears if you haven’t granted permission yet).
• When asked, tap Allow to give Lyft access to your contacts.
• After that, your contacts should show up as search results in the drop-off field when you search by name or address.
• Tap a contact name to use their address as a destination.
• You can also tap the edit button next to a contact to add or remove an address.
