• I’ve been into this game since I was 12, and now I’m 22—I finally got around to playing it after 10 years. Overall, it feels like a visual novel with striking art and a wild, twisted chain of events that reminded me of Goosebumps, especially with how the characters transform through the story. That said, the artwork also feels a bit dated for a 2014 release—cute, but not quite where it could be.

  Even with that, I genuinely love Gender Bender DNA Twister Extreme and I’d recommend it to fans of visual novels.

• The writing can be rough in a lot of places—especially in earlier storylines—and it’s even more noticeable when compared to the sequels like Max’s Big Bust, Alluna & Brie, and Max’s Big Bust 2. You can tell the game was built over multiple years: the later routes are far better than the opening ones, and they even poke fun at plot holes from older paths.

  The art isn’t always great, either. Still, I personally found the game fun and lighthearted enough that it’s surprisingly easy to move past the weaker parts—though I’d suggest saving the Dina route for later.

  Also, it has a distinctly Australian vibe, which I always consider a plus.

  

• Honestly, I don’t think it’s as bad as some people make it sound. If you’re wondering whether it’s for you: it isn’t trying to portray transgender life realistically. It’s a fetish-focused game aimed at a very specific audience. If you want a game about the real-life experiences of transgender people, this isn’t that.

  

  But if your interest is in transformation fetishes—breast expansion, animal transformations, or gender swapping—then this game is absolutely your territory.

  It may not be cheap, and the artwork doesn’t compare to something like Huniepop, but it can still be entertaining as a visual novel. A lot of people ask why you wouldn’t just find something like this on DeviantArt—but it’s hard to match the sheer scope and completeness here. Many characters have more than five endings, and there aren’t many creators who write stories covering these kinds of themes with this level of volume.

  So if it hits your “weirder side,” give it a shot. If not, it likely wasn’t meant for you.
