Modern Combat 3 is a fast-paced action shooter that blends an in-depth single-player story with large-scale co-op multiplayer. Take on enemy players using advanced gear, team up with allies using voice chat, and fight your way to victory. As you rack up wins, you can upgrade your weapons to boost damage and improve performance in tougher matches.

The game also supports controllers and other peripherals, so you can set up custom button layouts for a more comfortable experience.

Gameplay

The action in Modern Combat 3 follows the familiar style of the earlier Modern Combat entries and feels close to the pacing and feel of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Single-player campaign

• The solo storyline spans 13 levels, set across locations such as Hollywood, Alaska, and the Middle East.
• You play as Corporal James Walker, Master Sergeant Carter, and Sergeant Anderson (a protagonist from Black Pegasus).
• Controls use on-screen virtual buttons: a movement stick on the left, while aiming is done by swiping on the touchscreen.
• Gyroscope aiming is available on iPhone 4, 4th-gen iPod Touch, and select Android devices.
• During combat you can crouch, throw grenades, aim down iron sights, reload, switch weapons, pick up new weapons, knife enemies, and climb over obstacles.
• All controls can be customized from the main menu.
• The campaign also includes Quick-Time Events.

Multiplayer mode

Multiplayer returns with a bigger player count than the previous games, increasing to twelve players (compared to Sandstorm’s 6 and Black Pegasus’ 10).

• 6 maps and 8 game modes are available.
• Game modes include: Battle, Team battle, Capture the flag, Zone control, Manhunt, Bomb squad, Destruction, and Team Manhunt.
• Earn experience by defeating enemies and completing objectives, progressing through 90 ranks.
• At rank 90, you receive a Veteran Symbol.
• After that, you can reset your rank back to 1 without losing any purchased items.

Useful Tips

Master the controls

• The basics are easy to learn, but you’ll need practice until the controls feel automatic.
• Use the left virtual joystick to move. Pushing it fully in a direction triggers a sprint.
• Sprinting lets you jump over small obstacles, but it also lowers your weapon, so use it carefully.
• On the right side, double-tapping lets you adjust your placement. If you prefer, you can switch to a setup instead.
• Customize the layout so it matches what feels most natural—during firefights you won’t have time to think.

Know your special ability

• Before a match, choose from 12 different Agents (more are expected later).
• Each Agent has unique combat skills that can decide the outcome of a fight.
• Example: Mi-Nu (assassin) gains increased speed and regeneration. Activating her ability helps you push for kills or escape when needed.
• Example: Kan is a defender whose skill creates a defensive dome that shields teammates inside it.
• Timing matters—using these abilities at the right moment can shift the battle in your team’s favor.
• Keep in mind: using special abilities costs Core Charges.
