I’m surprised that iOS’s Google Drive is working better than Android’s version. Even though my iPhone 12 Pro Max is on iOS 14.5.1 (latest is iOS 18.3, I think), it’s jailbroken so I can’t update. On my Pixel 6 with Android 14, I’ve never really seen thumbnail previews for the photos I upload. I only found out that thumbnails were a thing when I opened the iOS version—everything loaded super fast. I also had trouble downloading .AVI video files on my Pixel, but on iOS there were no issues. One thing: iOS doesn’t seem to offer a direct download option for those videos, but using “Open in” let me pick my video player app (like VLC), and it looks like the file was saved to that app’s video list. If your goal is to download stored videos from Drive, you may want a solid video app installed first before trying to download. I don’t think iOS offers the same options as the stock “Photos” app in my case, and that might be tied to being on iOS 14.5.1.

Big respect to the iOS developers—honestly, they did a better job than Google did on their own apps using their own devices. I like both platforms, and I wouldn’t say one is objectively better than the other. Each has pros and cons, so I carry both in my pocket and I’m happy with that. Leaving home without either one feels like I forgot something important.

I use Google Drive for documents, spreadsheets, slides, and photos, and for collaborating with teams. It has basically replaced the need for other companies’ word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation tools. What I like most is how well it connects with the apps I already use—like using Drive storage for website development in Squarespace. I also use Google Sites, and those pages show up in Google Drive so everything is saved in one place. I haven’t had any security breaches, and I can share file access with people who are Google users as well as with other email platforms. I’ve tested it, but my comment cuts off mid-sentence here.
