Founded in 1983 as a family-run business, Octapharma’s mission is to build a healthier world. As a global healthcare organization active in 118 countries, we work to serve hundreds of thousands of patients each year. Our medical focus centers on three areas: hematology, immunotherapy, and critical care.

We create medicines from human proteins sourced from plasma collected at our own donation centers. Our drive comes from the dedication of our employees and the generosity of our donors, as we continue reaching out to those who need support the most.

FAQs

How often can you donate plasma?

Octapharma Plasma follows all U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines. These rules allow two plasma donations in a seven-day period, with at least 2 days between the two donations. Your body replenishes the donated plasma within about 24 to 48 hours. For example, if you donate on Monday, you can typically donate again on Wednesday.

After donating, be sure to drink plenty of water to help your body replace fluids.

Want to change the days you donate permanently? That’s usually not an issue. Many people keep a full seven-day gap between weekly schedules to ensure they can choose new days without problems. Talk with the staff at your local donation center to decide the easiest way to adjust your schedule.

Where can I donate? What are your hours?

There are 170+ plasma donation centers across the United States. To find the nearest Octapharma Plasma Center and its hours, open the Plasma Donation Centers page and search by STATE or ZIP code.

Can I switch plasma donation centers?

Yes. Transferring between Octapharma Plasma centers is designed to be quick and easy. You can donate at the location that’s most convenient for you with no wait time or paperwork. Transfers don’t change your donor qualification status and can be completed at a kiosk. If you have questions, ask your new donation center staff for assistance.

What is plasma?

Plasma is the liquid component of your blood that carries red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. It’s made mostly of water and proteins. Because it contains a high level of protein, plasma is used to produce life-saving medicines for patients who need treatment for trauma, bleeding disorders, immune-related infections, and more.

Learn more about what plasma is and why it’s so important.

How does plasma donation work?

Plasma donation is similar to donating blood. A trained professional called a phlebotomist places a sterile needle into your arm vein to collect blood. The blood is then passed through single-use, sterile equipment that separates plasma from the other blood components. Your plasma is collected for processing, while the remaining blood components are returned safely to you.
