Changelog (Highlights)

• Completely redesigned main menu: Rebuilt from the ground up. Action buttons are placed on the left, and there’s a new background from Yilx (you can disable it in settings if you prefer).



• Performance improvements: The new version is faster—especially noticeable on tablets. Lobby chat can also be closed for extra speed.
• New PM and challenge system: Challenges and private messages now happen in the same window. PMs appear side-by-side, and you can switch PM windows using Tab and Shift + Tab. Close PM windows with Esc.
• Smarter user menus: You can interact with users not only in the lobby, but from usernames shown in lists, chat, battles, and PMs. Clicking a username opens a small mini-menu.
• Watch Battles filtering: The Watch Battles view can be filtered by format.
• Teambuilder updates: Added EV sliders and base stats display in the teambuilder.
• Separate volume controls: Control effects and music independently. You can mute music while still hearing battle cries.



• More usable space: With the left sidebar removed, lobby chat can sit beside battle chat even on screens as narrow as 1280px (covering most non-netbook laptops).
• PP shown in teambuilder + !data: PP now appears in the move list, and the !data view includes it as well.
• Move and delete Pokémon in teams: The teambuilder now lets you rearrange or remove Pokémon directly within your team setup.
• Many smaller improvements: Various quality-of-life tweaks are included—feel free to explore.

How to Play

This is the main screen of Pokémon Showdown, where you can access all core functions. Your first step should be the Teambuilder.

Build Teams in the Teambuilder

• All teams you create are stored inside the Teambuilder.
• Teams are saved using local cookie storage.
• If you sign in from multiple computers, you may not see all your teams.



• If you clear the cookies on your device, you can lose your teams—so consider backing up once you’re actively building.

Your teambuilder may look empty at first. Don’t worry—keep using Pokémon Showdown and it will gradually fill with your teams and creations.

Create Your Team

To begin, tap “New Team”, then choose a format from the Formats dropdown.

There are many formats for Single and Double battles, but most players will want the newest VGC format (commonly what they’ll play). For example, you might select VGC 2022, though the best choice depends on what you want to compete in.

This sets your Pokémon to the correct level (typically level 50). In the simulator, it can adjust automatically even if your Pokémon are level 100 or 50—so you don’t need to stress about it.
