Gameplay

In Whispering Willows, you play as a determined and responsible daughter, Elena Elkhorn. Navigate Elena and perform actions using the game’s function keys.

Your destination is the Willows Mansion, where Elena searches for her father. Unlike some stories where you wait for doors to open, Elena’s journey is different: she can use a pendant to turn her living body into a spirit. In this ghostly form, she can move freely through areas that would be inaccessible otherwise.

• Talk and interact with different ghosts throughout the mansion to collect clues.
• Fly around as a spirit to explore hidden spaces, and possess select objects.
• Use mechanisms such as levers to change the environment and open new routes.
• Keep grabbing items as you go—when the game demands an answer, you’ll want the right tool ready.
• Collect notes left by other ghosts and use them as guidance.

Since launch, the team has been monitoring bug reports and community feedback. This update is a small patch packed with fixes—especially for issues tied to language switching, so players using multiple translations should notice a smoother experience.

Walkthrough

Right at the beginning, go left to the pile of rubble and press cn_A to pick up your amulet. This item lets you enter spirit form with cn_X. You’ll also be shown an inventory screen you can open with cn_Y, though it isn’t required—so don’t worry if you didn’t notice it on your first run.

Go to the right. When your amulet starts glowing and the controller vibrates (note: this vibration can’t be disabled), switch to spirit form and interact with the ghost to obtain Flying Hawk’s Ghost. Keep moving right while in spirit form. Fly up through the crack in the wall, then activate the lever to open a side door so your body can pass through.

Completing this unlocks First Contact.

First Contact

• Offline Mode — These achievements are only available in game modes that don’t require any online services.
• Single Player — Achievements tied to this category can be earned by a lone player.
• Main Storyline — These achievements are earned automatically as you progress through the main game modes.

After opening the gate, go through it. For future reference: doors that slide left/right in the character’s plane are called side doors (whether they look like wood or metal).

Enter the nearby darkened doorway—this door type will be referred to as a background door for clarity later. Climb down two ladders, then go left and up the next ladder.

From there, use spirit form to fly up through a hole in the roof, then drop down through another hole to the left to activate a lever. Return to your body and go through the newly opened side door to get the Storage Key.

Head back to the right, go down the ladder, and enter the darkened doorway on your left. If you’re standing in the right spot, you’ll notice red scratches on the wall pointing toward a locked door on the right. Go left and down the ladder, then go left again, using your key to unlock the side door.

Move all the way to the left. Use spirit form to pass through a ceiling hole and flip a lever above. This will open a distant door—one you’ll need to return to later.

Now go all the way to the right, past the cage. Climb back up the ladder and enter through the background door. Go right past the two ladders, descend a third, then head left past several crypts to continue the next section.
