Grow Empire Rome is a strategy tower defense game set in ancient Rome. You lead the growth of your civilization, command your armies, and push across Europe to become the dominant power of the age. Take control of 120+ cities and explore thousands of building upgrades as you expand your influence.

Defense is only half the job. You’ll also pick from dozens of unit types to assemble a strong fighting force. Recruit heroes with special skills, send them to attack enemy cities, and use what you win—resources, gold, and experience—to upgrade both your cities and your heroes. The game keeps improving with new units, additional modes, and fresh events over time.

How gameplay works

At its core, the game is about summoning enemy waves and surviving them. To call the next wave of invaders, tap the Next Wave button in the bottom-right—that’s how the barbarians arrive.

To send your own troops, tap the unit portraits in the bottom-left. Summoning units uses 1 charge from the bar above the units panel (shown as a green gauge). You begin with 2 charges, and the charges regenerate over time.

Use the wave info to your advantage. Each wave grows tougher, but the game also lets you know which enemy unit types you’ll face. That information helps you deploy the best counter units to stop the invaders.

Rewards matter. Every enemy you defeat grants gold (for unit upgrades) and experience (for upgrading your city).

Boss waves every 10th round. Every 10th wave is a boss wave. The barbarians launch a more organized attack and may introduce new enemy types. There’s no real punishment for losing—if they breach your wall, you can simply try the wave again or pause to upgrade your forces first.

Resource Management

Gold, food, and other resources fuel your empire. Managing them well ensures you can keep your army supplied, strengthen defenses, and train new units. Long-term success heavily depends on smart decisions about how to allocate resources.

Tips and strategies

Spend your upgrade points smartly

When you level up, you earn XP points that you can spend in the General tab. Choose skills that match your preferred playstyle. For example, investing in Wall Archers Damage and Wall Archers Range pairs well if you focus upgrades on walls and archers. That way, your defenses can still pressure enemies even when your troops are down or on cooldown.

Watch ads to earn extra gold

At times, you can watch a short advertisement to collect gold. This often appears roughly every 3–5 levels, and the amount you receive increases as you progress. If you want faster growth, it’s worth using these opportunities to help level your units and improve your soldiers.

Capture more territories for passive gold

In the Map tab, you can view territories and their levels. Many areas start at level 1 or level 2 and can go up quite far. Capturing and upgrading territories provides passive gold over time, since better control and higher upgrades translate into larger income.

Each territory can be upgraded up to level 5, so it’s a good idea to upgrade once you take a zone. It’s also a strong way to earn profit while you’re offline, as conquered territories count toward offline earnings too.
