It’s been a while since I last posted activity here, and especially longer since we’ve had an update for Rent(a)Boyfriend. Sorry things have been rough for me over the past few months—but no regrets now. Let’s enjoy this new update!

Player Comments

• “Pretty standard koikatsu VN.” The main character and most girls you meet are likable, and the writing is… usable. However, the concept doesn’t fully make sense to me: why is this job in such high demand if the street models we see are mostly male? There’s also no real explanation that men are scarce, and the site’s description claims this is a job “many men would find perfect.” If that’s true, why aren’t they doing it? And if the women are desperate for a man, why don’t they just go find one? The core premise is left unexplained, and that hurts the immersion.

  Gameplay is simple and fine—no giant open world. You just pick “go to girl 1” or “girl 2” and you’re there. The real issue is text speed: it’s set very slowly and there’s no in-game option to adjust it. I ended up skipping ahead and then scrolling back because the pace was too slow.

  Sex scenes are also straightforward and functional—classic Koikatsu-style H-loops. They’re neither especially bad nor especially great; they’re what you’d expect.

• “Interesting—animations and sound are good.” I was curious and downloaded it. The animations look solid, the characters are well-designed, and the environments feel constructed properly. I also appreciate that it includes an original soundtrack and sound effects. The story is a good starter—it gives enough background to build curiosity, and it feels like it could go further. Nice work, dev. I’m excited to see how the story develops.

  Also: The sister is a redhead and she plays the piano? And wait—are the photo character and the mother the same person? The hair color looks more like a bright red. Is the photo girl a reference to Maki Nishikino? Sorry—my brain instantly makes that connection.

• Text speed control is a major letdown. Not being able to change text speed is frustrating. I modded it in, but it shouldn’t be required.

  

  Dialogue is okay, but proofreading could be better. The story has the main character working as an on-call host/gigolo, and he’s handling…
